Ringing in a new year of life in gratitude

Standard

I think most of my life my birthday has brought along a case of the blues. You see having an end of summer birthday almost always ensured that friends were out of town on the final vacation. Then, as the school year crept closer and closer it landed on the one of the first day(s) of school. My mom even left me at college on my 18th birthday where many a tear was shed.

So, the other day as I stood on the edge of  my 28th year I tried to think of how to make the transition to 29 great. As I looked back on my year, I could think of one word to describe it: G R A T I T U D E

I’ve been truly blessed in my life to be surrounded by wonderful people who have taught me so much and helped to form me into the person I am today. Have I told them lately? Do I say it enough?

Then, the moment of inspiration! Why not mark this trip around the sun by writing 29 letters of gratitude?! Words of affirmation are not my love language, but sometimes people need to know…they need to hear it.

I’ve spent the past few days engaged in this project and you know what? I think the Birthday Blues have gone away.

So, try it! Have you told someone how much they mean to you today?
